Mr Michael Chow
Michael S. S. Chow (Singaporean)
"Michael Chow, ACIB, has been elected to be the Honorary Auditor of UNITED NATIONS ASSOCIATION of SINGAPORE (www.unas.org.sg) in the recent Annual General Meeting for year 2009. He is also a member of the fund-raising committee."
1. Advisory Sector-Corporate & Financial Risk Engineering
Mr. Chow is currently the Executive Director of Sovereign Richwell (Far East) Co Pte Ltd which is involved in corporate advisory, financial engineering and risk mitigation works in Asia for the past 18 years (excluding many years in the banking industry since mid 70's).
As a financial structurist, he was instrumental in success of a management buy-out deal for a Singapore company which later won the top 500 SMEs award for year 2008. A well known golf accessories shop chain with high inventory was re-structured by innovative risk mitigation by him and was acquired later by a public listed company.
In the 80's during a depressed market he successfully structured the deal and procured a re- financial package from a single bank for an hotelier which was at the brink of foreclosure. The hotel company is now listed in the main board of SGX.
A well known icon commercial building in Hong Kong was partially funded via credit transformation thru procurement of credit facilities for the principal contractor in which he was the team leader. A condo project in Phuket Thailand was able to raise the sufficient offshore fund, during the Gulf war, via the advisory firm which he led.
He was able to raise sufficient fund for a public listed company (main board) for its private placement issue in less than a week (after the original underwriter withdrawn suddenly from underwriting the issue) and get a Monetary Authority of Singapore's licensed underwriter i.e. a well known stockbroking firm in Singapore to underwrite the issue as required by the Regulator although the fund for the issue was already secured.
In China he arranged one of the biggest companies in Middle East to be involved in a large transaction and organized meeting involving top local government officials for the Arabs in the government city hall.
2. Committees
He sits on the Singapore local committees of:-
- Association of International Accountants-UK.
- Ifs School of Finance (by Royal Charter), formerly known as Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB).
3. Experiences & Geographical Exposure
He has more than 30 years in banking and financial experiences covering Asian Pacific including off- course countries like South Africa, Morocco, Guam and Mongolia.
4. Banking Sector
Chase Manhattan Bank was his 1st employer after he graduated in Business Studies (with special additional certification from Polytechnic of Central London).
He received advanced credit education from Citibank’s regional Advanced Accounts Manager Training Unit (AAMTU) in Manila, Philippines and was the Manager of Credit & Marketing in an international bank owned by Citibank and Lloyds Bank.
Whilst at Bankers Trust (NY), he was a Vice President and Division Head of Trade Banking for Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia. During his last few days in the Bankers Trust, an internal circular was issued that his area of responsibility covers South East Asia as Vice President / Trade Coordinator; located in Singapore.
5. Fellowship & Associateship
He is:-
1. Fellow of the Association of International Accountants - (UK)
2. Fellow of the Taxation Institute of Australia
3. Associate of Chartered Institute of Bankers (CIB) - (UK)
4. Associate of Malaysian Society of Accountants
6. Involvement in Public Events
He has been a guest speaker in events including an event organized by the Government of Mongolia (Mongolia Embassy in Singapore). He was a moderator in a conference organized by GBO Forum in conjunction with Economic Development of Singapore & Singapore Business Federation.
